Denali and Talkeetna

Just a 4.5 hour ride up the Parks highway to Talkeetna today but not without having to persuade the rancorous leveling jack to get ready for the trip.  We dug out the 2X4 that Ted Steele said I had to have along and used it to persuade the jack to ride in its proper up position.  We left the 2X4 handy just in case this becomes a regular procedure.

After a somewhat lengthy delay for construction we headed on down the highway to a bridge where we had our first glimpse of Mt. McKinley.  Before we got to Talkeetna we had a couple of more opportunities to see the tallest Mt. in North America.  After setting up the RV we decided to see the town of Talkeetna.  Little did we know that Talkeetna has a mini festival each week end.  The Alaska railroad does a stop here with their rail/cruise tours as well.  Needless to say it caught us by surprise and we had to go down by the river’s edge to find a place to park.  While we were there, we walked on down the water’s banks and were treated to another view of Denali.

Then it was back to the gift shops to do what we are really good at.  There were a whole lot of people jammed into not a lot of space.  So many that we decided not to fight the crowd and drove 14 miles back to Cubby’s IGA for some deli chicken and potato salad.  We took it back to the RV to eat and we just finished our dessert.  Tammy and I had brownies, mine with vanilla ice cream.  Linda and Dave had there brownies with two leftover mint Klondike Bars.  It doesn't get much better than this.
